Unit Overview
This weather unit introduces first graders to the basic concept of weather and its fundamental components. This unit integrates language arts,
mathematics, art, science, and social studies in a meaningful way through engaging activities. Activities provide opportunities for hands-on experiences,
writing, reading, predicting, comparing, and inferring.
In total, this unit has fourteen lessons. However, it is easily adaptable to fit the needs of the teacher. It could be covered one week
intensively, or be spread over two weeks when incorporated into the regular curriculum. Each activity is developed to begin with the
basics and expand students' knowledge of the world. This unit promotes the interest in and awareness of weather and its effects on our
daily lives.
